Roland Molontay is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Mathematics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, where his research focuses on data science and network science. A few years ago, he founded the Human and Social Data Science Laboratory (HSDSLab), whose mission is to translate fundamental research in data and network science into a lasting impact in the social, human, policy, and business contexts. Roland Molontay’s research focuses on how to apply the tools of statistics, machine learning and network theory to solve problems in education, health and industry.

Roland Molontay is the author of more than 40 scientific publications, a regular speaker at prestigious international conferences, and the recipient of numerous professional awards, including the Gyula Farkas Memorial Prize and the Róbert Bárány Prize.

Born and raised in Budapest, he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, where he later obtained a PhD in mathematics and computer science. He gained international experience as a visiting doctoral student at Brown University in the United States and as a visiting scholar at Indiana University Bloomington. Currently, he is an associate professor at the Department of Stochastics at the BME, a research fellow at the ELKH-BME Stochastics Research Group, the lead researcher of the BME Human and Social Data Science Laboratory, and a lecturer at the BME Department of Management and Business Economics and the Aquincum Institute of Technology.
